Is Laser Skin Tag Removal Painful?

Before we look at whether it is painful to make use of laser skin tag removal, we need to know what skin tags are and what the methods available for their removal are.

Studies have indicated that over half of the human population is bound to develop one form of skin tag or the other throughout their lives. Low self-esteem and embarrassment are some of the major reasons why people look for skin tags removal and skin tags remedies. Skin tag removal procedures are provided by many dermatologists.

What are Skin Tags?

Even though they usually resemble small balls that dangle from the skin. In actual fact, skin tags are benign skin growths. Medical and skin experts, along with dermatologists have continued to say that skin tags do not cause any harm. However, because they can appear on different and sometimes exposed areas of our bodies, like the arm pits, neck, groin, buttocks, upper chest, and eyelids, they often pose a cosmetic concern. It is common to see clusters of hundreds of skin tags. It is also common to see them occurring as single tags.

The size of most skin tags range from around 1mm-5mm in diameter, which means they are typically small. However, some can grow to the size of a fig, easily measuring up to 5 centimeters in diameter.

Who does Skin Tags Affect?

The risk of developing skin tags is equally split between men and women. The most common age when skin tags can occur is between 35 and 60 years. This does not mean that it occurs exclusively in adults. Toddlers and children are known to also develop skin tags, with many occurring on their neck and under their arms.

Are Skin Tags Contagious?

There is no conclusive evidence that skin tags can be transmitted from one person to another through any mean like physical contact. This means that skin tags are not contagious.

What is the cause of Skin Tags?

There is no knowledge about the actual cause of skin tags. However, because they are known to occur in skin folds and creases where friction is common in the body, it is being suspected that they are the result of skin rubbing against other skin. Another cause that researchers suspect it is caused by the trapped blood vessels and collagen within the skin’s thicker pits.

Should I try to remove a skin tag on my own?

Most dermatologists do not recommend removing a skin tag on your own, especially if the skin tag happens to be quite big. They point to the fact that if you remove skin tags without a medically sterile equipment, you make the area prone to infection because skin tags also have blood vessels. Also if you do not use local topical anesthesia to numb the area where the skin tags occurs the entire process can be quite painful. Of course none of these risks and concerns would arise if you used a recommended skin tag removal cream. Many products for skin tags removal are easy to use and cause minimal discomfort.

How do medical experts remove skin tags?

Dermatologist, doctors, and medical experts provide different ways of getting rid of skin tags for you. These methods include:

· Using medical scissors to cut the tag off

· Using electric cautery to burn off the tag

· Using liquid nitrogen to freeze the tag off

· Using laser

Can skin tags be removed using laser?

If skin tags appear in highly cosmetic areas of the body, then the dermatologist might resort to using a laser to get rid of them permanently.

Is laser skin tag removal painful?

The procedure in using laser to remove skin tags is almost painless. You would feel a slight prick when the process starts. In the end, you would also notice the skin tag would be gone, replaced by what might appear to be a slight scar or dot on your skin.

Would you feel pain when using any of the other skin tag removal procedure?

There would be relatively no pain if the size of the skin tag is small. In this case, all you would feel during such a skin tag removal would feel like a pinprick. In order to prevent you from feeling any pain during the removal of larger skin tags topical anesthetic would be used.

Are skin tags removal covered by medical insurance cover?

Skin tags removal are looked at as elective cosmetic procedures. This is why most medical insurances do not cover skin tags removal. However, you can discuss with your preferred dermatologist or medical expert to see if they have some form of financing available.
